Large reason for joining a startup is to grow. If you join the right team - you can have an incredible experience, learn a ton, and have a fuller life. Big part of these experiences are the founders. You are betting on the founders.
My name is George. So why bet on me? Here’s why:
- Experience building and scaling: With an A+ team of ~80, I built/sold a business to a F500 company for >$100M. 3.5xed $ARR in 2 years after the acquisition all while staying massively profitable. Built >20 moonshot products in small teams. Prior, I built/led large parts of the Minecraft franchise and grinded my way from low-stakes to consistently winning in the toughest online poker games over 1.5M+ hand sample. I learned a lot over last 18 years, have the scar tissue to show for it, and am pouring all of this experience into us.
- Work ethic and pain tolerance: I will do everything I can to warp the world so that we deliver on our mission. I don’t expect most to match my intensity, but my point is that you want to be at a place where the founders are obsessed. Joe (co-founder) and I are all in.
- Chip on shoulder: I am a first generation immigrant (came to U.S. when I was 14 without my parents). Had to fight and adapt. Got to where I am mostly because of what I did rather than what was “given” to me.
- Experience doing most functions: I’ve done most roles on the team from product to ops to CX to marketing to design to sales and dev. You get it. I’ve also played poker for a living. As a result, I can draw on lessons from different disciplines to help us win and we can get results without hiring a big team (a mistake we will avoid).
- Clear goals: There are 2 reasons for why Joe and I started this company: (1) to build iconic services that solve real problems and (2) to create a company/culture where people do their best work and have an incredible experience building. This is not about us. Our company is one of the products we will ship as a team. This chapter will be a bright chapter for the team from learning and personal growth POV. All Joe and I care about are these 2 goals (business/customer growth and teammate growth). Nothing else. And outside of unethical behavior, we will do everything in our power to achieve these goals.
- Principles and values: Overtime I’ve developed a set of principles for how to do X and values for how to operate. These principles are a result of pain and mistakes I made so these are more than empty quotes. So what? These principles matter because there is a strong tribal compass in the company and an approach to solving problems. We won’t get lost. We believe that all problems can be solved.
And this is Joe. I’ve been part of the most talent dense communities from D.E.Shaw to South Park Commons and Joe is N of 1.
- World‑class engineering at massive scale: Joe was top‑30 contributor to Snapchat’s iOS codebase. The work he owned (literally him - not a team) re-architecting Snap’s AR engagement funnels led to the largest jump in lens usage in six years. He even authored a patent from a hackathon project.
- Obsession & raw zeal: Deadlifted 3× bodyweight during his prime. Cold‑emailed 1,000+ engineering managers to land a Google internship. Got top rank on LeetCode for sport. How does this help us? Because the same intensity shows up daily.
- N of 1 generalist: You want strong generalists in the 0-1 phase and Joe is it. He knows when to take ruthless shortcuts and when to build resilient systems. Joe cut Android build pipeline at Google by 1200% by removing non-value steps. He built our MVP over Xmas break. A customer wanted a sleek front-end demo with 24hr notice and Joe built an insane suite of reports without a designer.
- Methodical approach to solving complex problems: Startups are messy. Joe is one of the clearest thinkers I’ve ever worked with. He cares deeply. He gets to the root cause of every problem, focusing on the highest leverage action we can take today. This is a huge asset and a good counter-balance to my blind spots.
- Good heart: Joe cares deeply about others. Customers and teammates always come first in his mind. One of our first customers had an issue and Joe forward deployed himself to their office in NJ that same hour instead of spending time on slack. I have a tendency to burn out every N years and part of the reason why we raised VC $ is because I know that with Joe as a partner - I can build for a decade. Every contractor that has ever worked with us looked up to Joe because he poured all of his energy in making their dev experience with us A+.
- Shared mission & values: We founded Atlas to (1) solve real, painful finance ops with iconic tech and (2) create a culture where high‑agency people do the best work of their lives. Joe keeps the bar high on both fronts.
Let’s go!
